Dr. McColgin received her medical degree from Georgetown University Medical School where she was elected to the national medical honor society, Alpha Omega Alpha. She completed an ophthalmology residency followed by a fellowship in Corneal and External Disease at Tufts New England Eye Center and Ophthalmic Consultants of Boston. After her training, she practiced at Ophthalmic Consultants of Boston until deciding to return to her home state of Arizona in 2002.

As a clinical instructor at the University of Arizona, Dr. McColgin is actively involved in teaching ophthalmology residents about the diagnosis and treatment of corneal disease. She was one of the first surgeons in the United States to begin performing endothelial transplants which have revolutionized corneal transplant surgery. She has authored multiple articles in major ophthalmic journals, several chapters in ophthalmic text books, and was one of the investigators of the Corneal Donor Study.

Dr. McColgin is a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. She has been honored as the resident of the Janet M. Glasgow Award as well as the Lorenz Zimmerman, MD Award for Excellence in Ophthalmology. She has been elected by her peers as one of the Best Doctors in America every year since 2006.

Dr. McColgin performs cataract and corneal surgery. Most of her patients are referred from other eye specialists. However, she is also available to see patients who are self-referred for cataracts, corneal disease and second opinions.
